The Union Sports Ministry will set up 20 National Centres of Excellence (NCE) to distinguish between getting an unmarried scheme running in them for elite athletes. The pass is aimed at ending differentiation in training and different centers among athletes on the same campus. According to the Sports Authority of India, every Centre of Excellence may be earmarked for four to six precise sports, depending on the infrastructure available. It could educate athletes inside the developmental institution for the 2024 Olympics. The scheme will make certain that athletes in the same premises have got right to entry to similar facilities. The decision comes only some months after it turned into introduced that the budget for the diet of athletes may be made the same, no matter the level at which the athlete is educated.
While the National Center of Excellence can be reserved for athletes schooling for the Olympics, grassroots degree athletes will be trained at other SAI facilities and moved to NCE, relying on performance and the possibility of an Olympic medal. The two-tier training system will ensure that at both tiers, athletes get focused schooling. The 20 SAI facilities that have been diagnosed as National Centre of Excellence include SAI centers in Patiala, Trivandrum, Chandigarh, Sonepat, Lucknow, Guwahati, Imphal, Kolkata, Bhopal, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Gandhinagar, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, Indira Gandhi Stadium, Delhi, Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Delhi, Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee Swimming Pool Complex, Delhi, National Water Sports Academy (Khelo India), Alleppey, National Boxing Academy (Khelo India), Rohtak, National Wrestling Academy (Khelo India), Aurangabad.
On the decision, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju stated, “Standardising the training on campus will allow athletes to reap tons better performances in their respective sports. When athletes of equal level are educated at a center, and the facilities are made solely to be had to them, they may perform better, and outcomes will show. We are working in close coordination with NSFs to ensure a clean transition of our current facilities into the National Centre of Excellence and to identify more centers.”
